A Summer Walk

It has been a while since I took some photos. My hubby has been using the camera to take photos for his surf club every morning. Frankly the weather has been so gray and rainy and uninspiring. Today I took a walk around Wellfleet Bay, and am sharing some of my photos here.

Unable to Comply

I really thought I could keep this up, 365 photos, one a day. I did pretty good for 109 days. But my hubby started borrowing the camera, and days were missed and photos deleted. I lost my momentum. I did not realize how much pressure I was placing on myself to get a pictures and not fall behind. Once I did and realized I could not complete the task, I have been so relieved. Why was I stressing myself so? There is a lot going on at schools with restructuring, I work 2 jobs, volunteer at the DEN in SL and have 2 active kids. Really I need to say no more often, especially to myself.

I am still taking pictures and will up load when I can but the pressure is off.

This photo was taken by my husband on Monday May 4th. I did not have the camera, he has been using quite a bit and it definitely making keeping up with the challenge a challenge. We have lots of wild turkeys in the area.

Attended a conference on Sat May 2 so I was unable to take a photo today left before sun up and arrived home late. I just did not want to lug my camera around with me.

When I can home today there was a rabbit in the backyard. It was hard to get the bunny in focus, I guess it is the fur. He was there for along time. It was peaceful just watching him.

Another gray day outside and another day at the skating rink. I spend way too much time there in the spring. There is the spring shows and district competition to prepare for so chauffeur mom does a lot of sitting and tea drinking. These balls are from on of the claw game machines at the rink.

I was not feeling well this day and spent sometime at home. Almost forgot about getting a photo so grabbed one while picking up my daughter from the skating rink. They were decorating for the weekend competition.

Day - 75 Family Photos

My Father in Law passed away last month. We received a large envelope of photos, newspaper clippings and documents the other day. A wonderful treasure of memories. My goal over the next couple of weekends is to scan these and send digital copies to the rest of the family.

Day 74 - Main Street, Wellfleet

In the winter months main street in Wellfleet is empty only one grocery store, a bank and town hall are open. In the summer the street is backed with cars and people. Now it is a virtually a ghost town.

Day 73 - Sagamore Bridge

Took a little trip off cape. This is one of three bridges that cross the Cape Cod Canal. The Sagamore and Bourne bridges carry cars and are twins. The other bridge is a rail bridge.

This is Leuka, one of our cats. She had surgery today to remove a couple of teeth. this picture was take shortly after she came home this evening she just want to sit on everyone's lap and be petted.

Okay two days of working with the iPods and these 8 iPods just are not cooperating. I was thinking of turning them into colorful hockey pucks.

Today I will finish setting up the ipods and synching them to iTunes. We have 30 iPod Nano's and are getting ready for a professional development session in iPods in education.

Today temps were around 50F and the snow began to melt away. I took a walk around outside wishing spring would come sooner. I found some daffodils peaking through the snow.

The inner court yard of our High School is know as the COBB Astro park. There is outdoor theater, observatory, memorial garden and many hidden art treasures. The entire project was funded through grants, gifts and labor from the community. This a mural on one of the walls. I love these little murals they are scattered all over place. I plan to take more through out the week to share with you.

I have decided to take photos during lunch this week of the art in the Cobb Astro Park. The inner court yard of our High School is know as the COBB Astro park. The weather stick is dipping down showing a low pressure is passing by. I must say the weather stick is really good at predicting the weather, it is a natural barometer.

Day - 54 Model Proa

This is one of several Proa* models my husband received from his late father. When my husband's family lived in Micronesia they acquired these models from local navigator. The Micronesian seaman built these in the same tradition they built the larger Proa they still sail. These out rigger canoe models have seen better days my hubby hopes to restore them to their former glory. There is one for each of his brothers. My husband has made some larger models the largest is about 8 ft. Someday he hope to make an 18-20ft Proa he can sail.

*A proa is an outrigger canoe

This is a photo of a florescent light bulb in my dinning room. The light was on and quite bright my camera automatically reduced the light to what you see here.

My son has a target in the backyard, he uses a longbow. I used to compete as in archer in my college days. He shoots whenever he has a chance, weather permitting.

This is a picture of some ornamental tall grasses. I was impressed with the detail of the image. I took it from inside my car from about 20 ft. My eyes could not see all the detail but the camera did.

I live in a small town, Wellfleet MA. My end of town is known as South Wellfleet. We have a post office, there is no home delivery we all have PO Boxes, and a General Store. These are open all year long as is a liquor store. Though they have pretty limited hours. Adjacent to these is a surf shop and bakery but these are only open in season Memorial day through Columbus day.

During our time living overseas I collected Refrigerated magnets from the countries we have lived in. I particularly like the ones that show traditional dress. This one depicts a hanbok from South Korea.

Day 42 - Wrought Iron Candle Holder

My son loves to light candles and have fires in our fire place. At Christmas my son purchased this 3 tiered candle holder to use in our fireplace. Not my style but it does give a warm glow when we don't have a fire going.

This a Nauset lighthouse, in Eastham MA. It is still a working lighthouse and I enjoy seeing its beam sweep across the sky at night.

Day 39 - Old Farm House

This old farm house is located in Denverton California, Solano County. Seems sad and lonely out in the middle of the fields. I am sure it was once full of the sounds of a happy family.

We took a drive out to San Francisco and walked along fisherman's wharf. These boats looked quite colorful against the gray rainy backdrop of the day.

Day - 36 A Sad day

This is the Church were my Father in Law was laid to rest. It was a sad day, but a good day and the family gathered and reconnected. Shiloh Church was built in 1876 and located in Denverton, Solano County, California. It is in the middle of fields of new growth of wheat and oats. There are also many windmills in the area. I am impressed by these large windmills and find them quite impressive. I have places a set of these windmill photos on Flicker in a set called California Feb 2009.

Day 35 - Travel Day

On the road from Sacramento to Rio Vista California. This is just a blurry shot of Sacramento. The really it it reflects my mood. We spend 12 hrs on the same flight due to various delays. We were tired, hungry and certainly not thinking straight. Our flight went from Providence, to Philadelphia, Denver, LA and then on to Sacramento.

Snow yet again, this is how my world has looked most says since November. I really can't wait for spring. The Cape is having a bit of a snow storm. Started out as rain, now snow and very windy. The photo really does not really capture the blowing snow.

Here is another mineral from my husband's collection. I tried to use additional light but the reflection of the mineral made focusing difficult. Reduced light did cause shadows but a clear image. I will need to experiment some more.

I always think the summer cottages look lonely during the long gray winter months. These are located in Wellfleet just doen the road from Mayo Beach near the harbor.

Day 30 - Ice Flows

This photo was taken in Wellfleet, MA looking across the harbor toward Indian Neck Beach and Jetty. It has been pretty cold and there is ice floating on the harbor. When the waves come in there is a slushy sound to them, much different to the sound produced in the warmer months.
